Dev Blog: Shard Share
What is Shard Share?
Shard Share is a toggled system which lets you instantly share big loots with your team. Big drops from bosses are split into 300 shards and these shards are shared evenly with your team.
For example, if you were in a team of 3 and received a Bandos tassets drop, you would each receive 100 Bandos tassets shards.
300 shards can be put together to create the full item, or they can be sold to other players. The price of a single shard is exactly 1/300th of the Grand Exchange price of the item it creates.
For the example of Bandos tassets, 100 Bandos tassets shards would be worth roughly 8.8m.
What happens with low value drops?
Smaller drops are not split into shards. Instead, they are awarded to a random player in your team. This makes sure that everyone who is in your team, whether they are a damage dealer or a tank, has a shot at getting a few drops.
How do I enable Shard Share?
You and your team must join a friends chat and from there you will be able to click a button to enable Shard Share. The owner of the friends chat will be able to choose what rank is required in order to enable Shard Share, preventing any unwanted teammates sneaking in.
The owner of the friends chat will also be able to allow people they don't have added to take part in Shard Share, perfect for massing friends chats!
Can my team and I use Shard Share on any world?
No. You will only be able to use Shard Share in Shard Share enabled worlds. Just over half of Old School worlds will have Shard Share enabled.
Will it be possible to distribute drops randomly without splitting big drops into shards?
Yes! If you just want to randomise who gets the drops within your team you can do so without your big drops being split into shards. It will be as simple as the friends chat host toggling the shard option. You will still need to be on a Shard Share world, though.

Are drops which are stacks of items split evenly throughout the team?
We are going to offer this as a feature in a separate question in the poll.
Are you still offering LootShare?
No, we are not. The feedback we saw in response to LootShare made it clear that LootShare is not something that a majority of the community are in favour of.
Offering Shard Share with randomly distributed smaller drops is a much simpler system which seems to solve more of the problems Old School players are concerned about.
Why add Shard Share?
Removing the issue of trust
Currently, if you are in a team of 5 and one of your team gets a 50 mil drop there is no guarantee that you will end up receiving a split. For those of you that don't have a group of people to take on bosses with this can be a real problem.
Shard Share offers a way to avoid trust being a factor all together. Valuable loots are split evenly throughout a team, meaning you get your fair share no matter what.
Let us know exactly how you feel about what we have offered today and we will do what we can to make the content the best it can be!
We will be polling Shard Share this Thursday as an addition to the top 10 PvP quality of life poll. We look forward to seeing what you have to say!
