Low Level Ironman/Deadman Mode Money Making!

Written by Wild Lugia on . Posted in OSRS Flipping

As the owner of an OSRS Ironman Account, as well as an active member in the deadman mode community, making starting cash (or rebuilding on deadman mode accounts) can be difficult; especially when trading is limited. However, a particular method to money making, magic training, and thieving training may be used. While some may know this method, it is still worth sharing for those who may not know about it.

The method is the H.A.M. Store Room. For those who are not aware, the H.A.M. Store Room is unlocked after completion of Death to Dorgeshuun. Completion of this quest requires the completion of The Lost Tribe quest, which requires completion of Rune Mysteries as well as Goblin Diplomacy. The skills required to complete all of these quests are: 23 Agility, 23 Thieving, and 17 Mining. NOTE: Death to Dorgeshuun requires the player to fight a level 50 NPC, who uses both Protect from Ranged and Protect from Melee prayers.

After completion of the quest and while in the Store Rooms, the player has the opportunity to steal (pickpocket) keys from H.A.M. Guards which may be used to open chests that give the player random jewelry (rings, amulets, necklaces, and cut gems) ranging from Sapphire to Diamond. In doing this method, players will receive coins, the previously mentioned jewelry, thieving experience, and magic experience (if casting high-alchemy on the jewelry). While you are prone to failing to pickpocket the H.A.M. guards with a low thieving level, it is notable that wearing a full set of H.A.M. robes decreases your chances of failing. The guards hit anywhere from 1-3 upon failing to pickpocket them, so it is recommended the player brings food (even low tier food such as cake).

The Process:

The first thing a player must do to prepare for this money making method is prepare your inventory. You should bring: Food, H.A.M. Robes (equipped; if you have access to them), a Staff of Fire if you choose to cast High Alchemy on the jewelry (equipped), Nature Runes if casting High Alchemy, and a teleport (optional).

Once inside the H.A.M. hideout, find the trapdoor to the south of the podium (used in Death to Dorgeshuun). Then, climb down the ladder and approach the H.A.M. Guards and prepare to pickpocket! Successful pickpockets will give you the same loot as pickpocketing regular H.A.M. Members (Male and Female), with the exception of the keys used to open the store room chests (Bronze, Iron, Steel, and Silver). It is recommended you drop all of the loot, except the keys, to avoid clutter in your inventory. NOTE: If you are a low level you may want to keep a tinderbox and logs as you may receive raw anchovies and raw chickens which you can cook if you are low on food. Once you have a full inventory of keys, you can pick the lock of one of the four rooms to open the chests!

From this point, you may decide to cast High Alchemy on the jewelry OR bank the jewelry after each trip (if you do not have 55 Magic to cast High Alchemy) and sell them to Grum's Gold Exchange in Port Sarim. Another helpful factor in this money making method is the fact that some of the jewelry obtained can be enchanted with the Magic skill to create: Ring of Dueling, Games Necklace, Ring of Recoil, Ring of Forging, etc.

This method can yield over 100k gp/hour, however the rates vary depending on what jewelry you receive. It is important to note that regardless of what key you receive, the jewelry does not seem to change depending on which chest you loot. For example, you may receive multiple diamond jewelry from Bronze chests and none from Silver chests, despite what the name of the chest and corresponding key seems to imply.

NOTE: The guards may be walking through the corridors in which the doors to the chest rooms are located. If they are patrolling the doors and you attempt to pick the lock, they will attack you. The solution to this is to pickpocket the guards that ARE patrolling until you fail the pickpocket attempt. After they catch you, they will stop patrolling and remain stationary, unable to catch you again. If you accidentally talk to the guard, after the dialogue the guard will resume patrolling; however, pickpocketing them until you fail again will stop them from patrolling.
