Update | 18th September

We're back with an update to address your feedback from the start of the week. The poll is set to go live on .

Graveyard Agility & Other Courses

First of all, thanks for the great feedback. You've shared a lot of thoughtful discussion about Agility and its reward space more broadly, as well as your opinion on existing methods, which has been really useful for us to dig into.

In terms of this update, we want to provide a little more context on the intended balancing for the Graveyard, particularly in relation to Ardougne Rooftops, since players felt like it creeped on it a bit too much.

Click intensity

We feel we did an injustice describing the course as having two thirds of it similar to rooftops. While you could argue it has the potential to be as passive as rooftops, the onus is ultimately on the player.

That's the beautiful thing about this course in particular, it gives players the choice on how to approach the course, while they are doing it, rather than going into a course with a pre-defined expectation.

Whether you want to run the course as fast as possible for a high intensity/high reward experience, really take your time and approach it as AFK as it can be or tackle it with a blend of both, it really is down to you. Imagine a mixture of all the current styles of Agility in one place, where you pick your pace.

With that being said, when reviewing your feedback we felt that the current iteration of the course, if you went fully AFK, had too many moments where you might need to change your flow. So the team are happy to look at making that option a more consistent AFK method, but we'd look to reduce XP here to compensate.

We really appreciate all of the feedback you've shared around this topic and the team are going to be constantly reviewing this course during development.

Marks of Grace

It’s still our intention for the Graveyard to be the best source of Marks of Grace in the game, but only when engaging with the course at its higher intensity. Ardougne Rooftops will still offer better Marks of Grace than the Graveyard’s lower-intensity option.

Experience Rates

We'd also like to clarify that the rates we’ve shared for high-intensity Graveyard assume tick-perfect gameplay, which is difficult to maintain consistently in practice. In reality, it will be lower than this for most players. Graveyard's high-intensity option will likely be comparable to Ardougne rooftops. Ardougne rooftops are a relatively relaxed course, by comparison, so there's still a clear reason to engage with it if you prefer more a more chill option.

Pet Rate

Our wording on the blog about the pet rate was ambiguous at best. Some of you pointed out that giving the Graveyard the same pet rate as the Penguin Agility Course could undermine one of the main reasons to do that course. And we agree, it was our intention to make Graveyard a viable alternative, but not the best option.

So, the Penguin Course will remain the most efficient option for hunting the Giant Squirrel, and we'll balance the rate to make the Graveyard Course a nice option to more passively accumulate pets throughout your journey!

Gracing Grace With Graceful

Many of you want the Graceful changes to sit with Grace rather than Perdu. We're happy to make this change based on your feedback, so we’ll move all of the proposed functionality over to Grace, rather than Perdu. That change has now been reflected in the blog copy.

Graceful Switching

A popular suggestion for our Graceful overhaul was to let you switch between recolours you’ve already unlocked. This suggestion is one that has come up fairly frequently over the years and it is one the team love, after all, more FashionScape is always good!

While recently it has become more technically viable, it's unfortunately not possible to have with this update. Which is why we've added it to our backlog to be assigned to a future Sweep-Up once the progress of other projects fully unblocks us.

However, rest assured it will be featured alongside other changes and improvements to cosmetics.

Fremennik Concept Art

Some of you want to see Fremennik Sails concept art. On this occasion, the concept art won't be ready before we go to the polls, however, we'll aim to share this once it is finished in a future Game Update post before release and if it passes.

In the meantime, we asked Mod Grub what direction he's leaning in to offer a bit more context. Here's what he had to say:

Contemporary Fremennik sails are simply white, but perhaps those ancient Fremennik's splashed out on something akin to traditional Viking ships back in Britain.

Not that they'd have known each other.

We hope this helps with regards to your vote, and we appreciate the feedback.

Dust off your parchment from Ulfric - we're heading straight to the heart of the mystery surrounding the lost Fremennik treasure!

Earlier this year, we shared our plans for The Graveyard, a new Master-level quest continuing the story of Olaf's Quest. This epic sequel to our Fremennik series is set to launch in November, so not too long now.

Don't worry, we're not here to spoil the quest. Instead, we're huddling around the campfire to talk about the new Agility training method, coming alongside this quest as its main reward.

Once you complete the quest, you'll unlock a new Agility course, aimed at players between 65 and 80 Agility. It's a hybrid course, so you can expect it to have a mix of intensities, offering a relaxed or more intense option. Naturally, those of you who are willing to put in a little more effort can expect faster XP.

We won't be revealing the exact layout of the course or specific mechanics, since we think it's best to keep this as a surprise. However, we will reveal that it's a dark underwater cavern, littered with the remains of ships unfortunate enough to have found their way there. Throughout the course, you'll dodge debris, leap across half-sunken wreckage and try to stay above water!

Now, let's hand things over to Mod Husky, Senior Game Designer for this project, to take a closer look.

About the Course

Hey everyone, Mod Husky here.

Agility is in an interesting spot currently.

  • Rooftops are our 'tried and true', mostly laid-back method at all levels.
  • Hallowed Sepulchre is great for players who value a more leaned in experience (from level 77 with a boost onwards).
  • We also offer Brimhaven Agility, Wyrm Agility or Werewolf agility as more unique or bespoke experiences.

With The Graveyard, we're offering a hybrid approach, specifically aimed at those of you who are between levels 65 and 80.

You can expect a combination of all agility methods, with the main benefit of you having your choice of pace. You can pick a much more AFK and slow option (one click and come back ~20-30s later) or a more intense alternative for those who don't want to wait and want to proceed on to the next obstacle.

Here's an example of what that looks like in practice.

Imagine you start the course and complete two traditional Agility obstacles, then for the third obstacle, you can either click a narrow ledge on one side or some stepping stones on the other.

  • Those of you who pick the narrow ledge would take longer to do it and get less XP for your efforts, but you can use the opportunity to either respond to a message from another player, stretch, or whatever else you fancy.
  • Those of you who pick the stepping stones (think Yama) can engage in one click every tick to get through the obstacle substantially faster, provided you have the mechanical skill to do so correctly.

We were blown away by the positive reception to Yama stepping stones, and the low level course we made for Leagues VI, so we're excited to integrate these mechanics at various points in this course.

That said, expect there to be a step up in difficulty requiring you to identify the correct stones while also keeping up the one-tick rhythm.

We're also taking inspiration from some of Mod Rice's work on the Vampyrium skilling sections. For example, imagine an obstacle where you need to double or triple click in one tick at a specific timing to traverse it optimally. As we're still in the process of development and testing, we can't confirm exactly what mechanics we're proceeding with until we've tested them out, and I don't want to set false expectations, so watch this space.

For the more AFK parts of the course, we're hoping to achieve a level of consistency where the sections take about the same amount of time. This will allow you to get into a good rhythm, especially if you're doing this on mobile or as second monitor content. At this moment in development, the AFK time is looking to be somewhere in the region of 20-30s.

We hope this description shines some light on what we're aiming to do and helps to shape any feedback you all might have. Either way, no matter which kind of player you are, everyone in our target level range (65-80) should have a reason to check out this course on their Agility journey!

The course will be the main reward from Graveyard as it makes a solid progressional unlock for players between 65 - 80 Agility. Since it's a hybrid course, we're happy to cover a top-level overview of XP rates that you can expect to get at the lower and upper end of intensity.

Rewards

Experience Rates and Marks of Grace

High intensity

At the top end, you can expect to achieve 65,000 - 75,000 Agility XP per hour. Exact rates will depend on how these mechanics feel, but if you're playing this efficiently, expect rates around Ardougne Rooftop Course and just below Hallowed Sepulchre Floor 4.

You'll also see 30+ Marks of Grace per hour at the top end, as it's our aim to make the Graveyard the best source of Marks of Grace in the game.

Low intensity

Please note these rates are subject to change, especially with our feedback from Sept 18th.

If you're taking the slower route, you can expect around 55,000 - 60,000 Agility XP per hour. This should keep it comfortably ahead of Seers' Village while leaving higher-level methods more relevant.

You can expect approximately 14-15 Marks of Grace per hour, broadly in line with existing Rooftop courses.

Giant Squirrel

For those of you pet hunters out there that are still waiting on your Squirrel, we've got you.

While the Penguin Course will remain the most efficient option for hunting the Giant Squirrel, we'll be balancing the rate to make the Graveyard Course a nice option to more passively accumulate pets throughout your journey!

Who knew squirrels could be found hiding in dark underwater caverns, huh?

Fremennik Graceful Ornament Kit

Get your FashionScape on with the Fremennik Graceful Ornament Kit.

The kit is a more rugged take on Graceful, taking lots of inspiration from Fremennik styles and culture.

You can earn this cosmetic as part of the course. It will be a rare drop found in a picklockable chest just before the final obstacle. Picklocking this chest requires 65 Thieving.

If you're unsuccessful, you'll receive Sunken treasure, a stackable item which can be turned in to an NPC in Rellekka for Marks of Grace!

Question #1

Would you like us to add the Fremennik Graceful Ornament Kit as described in the blog?

Graceful System Rework

With the Graveyard set to become the best source of Marks of Grace, plus our proposal of an additional ornament kit, the team has been discussing our current Graceful system and we think it's appropriate to offer some improvements.

Currently, Graceful is purchased piece-by-piece, using Marks of Grace. A full set costs 260 Marks of Grace, but if you ever need another piece or set, you need to spend more Marks to purchase them again.

With the addition of a new Graceful cosmetic, we can understand that it can feel frustrating for players to have to earn another set of Graceful, which will require more Marks of Grace. We'd like to offer some changes to the overall way this system works.

We're proposing to make Graceful pieces a one-time unlock. Once you've spent the required Marks of Grace to obtain Graceful, we can ensure the outfit or piece would be permanently unlocked for your account. To obtain a duplicate, you'll only need to spend GP with Grace. At the moment, Grace is our preferred NPC because she already deals with Graceful.

  • Graceful Hood - 60k
  • Graceful Top - 90k
  • Graceful Legs - 100k
  • Graceful Gloves - 50k
  • Graceful Boots - 65k
  • Graceful Cape - 65k
  • Total set - 430k

You'd still need to earn enough Marks of Grace to purchase it in the first place, but after that you wouldn't need to spend more if you wanted to reclaim the base outfit or pieces again!

As part of the rework, we will also refund Marks of Grace you've already spent on existing duplicate pieces that you've got stored on your character, so those of you who have spent time earning multiple sets won't have that progress go to waste. However, please note, these refunds will only go to duplicate pieces that you currently have, since we can't track it retroactively, if they've been deleted. As part of this rework, also note that you'd be unable to sell back Graceful items to Grace for a Mark of Grace refund.

Overall, this should mean that once you've earned Graceful, any additional Marks of Grace can be put towards other rewards, which should make cosmetics feel less frustrating to obtain.

Question #2

Would you like us to rework the Graceful system as described in the blog?

Other Cosmetic Rewards

Although these aren't from the Agility course itself, we'd like to introduce a couple of new cosmetic rewards somewhere on the island for those of you looking to give your ship a suitably spooky makeover. We won't spoil where or how since we want to let you find that out on release for yourselves.

Please note, these are intended to be purely cosmetic and won't provide any additional benefits while Sailing.

First up are Ghostly Sails. These sails take inspiration from the eerie surroundings of the Graveyard, giving you another way to show off that you've braved what lies inside that terrifying cavern...

Question #3

Would you like us to add Ghostly Sails as described in the blog?

Additionally, we would love to offer another sail to add to your collection to allow you to unleash your true Fremennik spirit on the open waters! We want this sail to have a vibe and style similar to the Fremennik Graceful set shown above. We'd welcome any of your suggestions on how you'd like this sail to look should it pass a poll!

Question #4

Would you like us to add Fremennik Sails as part of the Graveyard update?

Right, that’s everything from us for now. Please do let us know what you think, as we'd like to set the poll for this content live later this week pending your feedback. We'll see you in the Graveyard this November!
