Monthly Marketplace: Chaos and Destruction

For those interested in Cosmetics and the RuneScape Marketplace, we're continuing this one stop shop monthly series to give you all the info on recent and upcoming releases in the Marketplace!

Introduction:

Thank you very much to everyone who got involved in our previous marketplace blog. It was great hearing your thoughts on the various questions we asked!

We noted that you had strong feedback on the overall marketplace experience, especially around previews and readability. We moved quickly to improve the visuals of individual Occult overrides that were called out but upgrading the underlying tech of the store (which would improve functionality) is a bigger undertaking. We are working on this behind the scenes, but it will take some time. In the mean time, we are keenly continuing to consider how to improve the preview clips on the existing marketplace.

There were a number of other feedback points, both on specific items that you valued but also on overall approaches that we found very insightful. We'll chat more about these in future!

Changes to our Bonus XP Approach

We’ve had some 6 months to see how Bonus XP is sitting within this new era for RuneScape.

Bonus XP exists – through Radiant Stars – based on the 54% who asked for some level of progression-friendly MTX options to remain. We picked Bonus XP as it requires participation in the core gameplay and economy to benefit from any gains, which offers a nice balance within our game vision.

There’s been in a hole in our approach we’ve been mulling over for a while now (which some of you called out back in January!). Our Radiant Stars on Marketplace approach essentially paywalled their availability, which feels out of kilter with every other gameplay-relative item since we started on the Road to Rejuvenation.

Based on usage showing Stars are being used by a smaller audience who really need it, we feel comfortable enough to solve this. So, later this month, you can acquire Radiant Stars via gameplay through Bonds!

We also had some early feedback that our Bonus XP packages were not quite worth the money. Given we’d come off the back of Treasure Hunter pumping out various forms of XP like candy, we wanted to let this one sit for a bit until the memory of Treasure Hunter returns was a little more distant.

Now we’ve let it sit; its clear Radiant Star bundles are a bit pricey for what they offer. We want to make sure Bonds or real-world money purchases feel respectful for the cost.

This month, we’ll be increasing the amount of Stars from each Bundle to strike a better balance. We’ll also be removing the odd friction of the Bonus XP cap too, as while we introduced it to incentivise consistent play to use it, we’re seeing the nature of Bonus XP alone does that just fine!

As we’ve done all year, we’ll be keeping an eye on these changes and any influence they may have on the game.

What is coming up:

Later this month, on June 15th we'll be re-releasing Croesus themed 'fungal' combat overrides (Fungal- Assault, Hurricane, Tendrils and Swiftness) alongside Bik and Ful associated cosmetics from the previously released Path of the Creators - Part II.

What is leaving the store:

The following items are being rotated out of the store on June 15th, so we want to make sure you have visibility of them while they're still available. Stock rotations will happen regularly - this keeps the store more manageable for both visitors and us, without it becoming cluttered or overwhelming.

Marketplace FAQs:

• Why don't you offer discounts if I already own part of an armour set that I obtained via Treasure Hunter?
• This is a technical limitation with the marketplace rather than an intentional choice. The store currently only recognises complete armour sets and does not contain individual items.
