New Cosmetic Type:
A couple of months ago we invited player feedback (via a blog post just like this one) on some aspects of the marketplace and what kind of cosmetics players wanted to see.
Amongst the feedback we read, there were two stand out community points that we picked up on that resonated strongly with our internal plans and that we wanted to touch upon today:
- You strongly felt that graphical improvements should not be pay-walled. If we remaster an item or bring it up to today's visual standards, the base look for that item should not be made a cosmetic for sale - such work should be considered normal maintenance of the game. We wholeheartedly agree! While regular visual updates should be as free and awesome going forward as expected, we do believe it would be worthwhile to offer variants of certain updated models through our marketplace. More on this in just a moment.
- A second point that was raised was the idea of "earned" cosmetics - that is to say, a new category of cosmetic overrides that can only be purchased once you have completed the relevant accomplishment or obtained the base version of the item through regular gameplay. Items for consideration here should have a certain level of exclusivity, as its important to continue upholding their sense of achievement. This sounded like a great idea, and one worth exploring - especially because it invites gameplay and can be applied to both previous and future releases.
Bearing the above in mind, we looked at some of our player favourite items that everyone is most proud of, and started there with the concepting of this idea.
After some time spent considering our options and really focusing-in on ensuring a high quality update, we're ready to take the first step here. Our first updated item, alongside its new set of cosmetic variants, is arriving this Monday, July 20th! Read on to find out more...
The Igneous Kal-Zuk:
Deep within the city of Senntisten, you were beset on all sides by the mightiest forces the elder gods could muster. Ful sent at you seventeen waves of newly-forged TzekHaar, crafted specifically for war, but you cut them down. Your mettle proven, Ful then sent TzKal-Zuk, Champion of Fire, a demigod warlord of obsidian and lava. You defeated him too.
You earned that Magma Tempest ability and the Scripture of Ful, sure, but the real prize? That was the igneous stone: a true sign of your prowess. Until this point, your TokHaar-Kal capes merely burned with the fire of a thousand suns, but with this stone you forged your very own, hard-won, Igneous Kal-Zuk cape!
YOU are the Champion of Fire now, you have earned it.

We're updating the Igneous Kal-Zuk cape and its lesser cape variants (Igneous Kal-Ket, Kal-Mej, Kal-Xil, Kal-Mor). These changes will arrive in game as part of Monday's regular game update and everyone who already has a respective cape will benefit from them.
We will also be updating the marketplace with cosmetic variants of the item, which will only be accessible for purchase to you after you have obtained the base item in game.
Unlock striking new looks, including the fearsome Obsidian Kal-Zuk Cape, the OSRS-inspired Infernal Kal-Zuk Cape, and the complete Obsidian Kal- Capes Bundle!

Why the Igneous Kal-Zuk?
We landed on the Igneous Kal-Zuk cape for the following reasons: It sits in a sweet spot of age, appeal and utility. We have been aware of player feedback on some of the details of the cape, which is what we've focused our efforts on addressing with this update. While it's not an ancient item in desperate need of a refresh, it is still relevant enough to a large group of players both for the challenge of acquiring it and the effects it offers. Importantly, it is also an item that cannot be bought and must be earned.
Get Involved:
The Igneous Kal-Zuk is a well loved and respected item that we have made sure to do right by with these changes. However, we'd love to hear your thoughts on which other items in the game would be most deserving for consideration for this type of updating and cosmetic variant-ing. Head on over to Discord and Reddit and let us know!

Lunar Legends
And just in case you missed it, the following "Lunar Legends" cosmetics were added to the Marketplace earlier last week:

The twin wolf-gods Inanna and Utu are the last remnants of a bygone age.
An age when legendary colossi stalked the woods of Havenhythe, worshipped by long-dead druids, empowered by the very magic of their home.
Now, their home is in danger. A terrible threat is spreading across Havenhythe and you must answer the call to defend it.
Wield the power of the ancient forests. Let the moonlight guide your path. Carry on the legacy of the wolves.

Coming soon:
At the start of August you can look forward to our first release of customisations for your Player Owned House!
The Anniversary Architect Bundle will be focused on adding furniture to celebrate RuneScape's 25th Anniversary and includes an Anniversary Armour Stand and Wall-mounted Sword and Shields along with some other decor. We'll also be adding a Party Pack, complete with Balloons, Bunting and Confetti Cannons (amongst other things)!
Marketplace FAQs:
- Why don't you offer discounts if I already own part of an armour set that I obtained via Treasure Hunter?
- This is a technical limitation with the marketplace rather than an intentional choice. The store currently only recognises complete armour sets and does not contain individual items.
